 Notes to Authors

Authors are responsible for obtaining permission to reuse drawings, photographs, tables, and excerpts from other publications. If the article is accepted by the journal, the authors will be requested to transfer their copyright to the Publisher. The maximum allowed paper length is 15 pages!

Authorship

Submission of a manuscript implies
  • that the work described has not been published before;
  • that it is not under consideration for publication elsewhere;
  • that its publication has been approved by all coauthors, if any, as well as by the responsible authorities at the institute where the work has been carried out;
  • that, if and when the manuscript is accepted for publication, the authors agree to automatically transfer the copyright to the publisher; and
  • that the manuscript will not be published elsewhere in any language without the consent of the copyright holder.

General Policies

All submissions are subject to peer review and editorial control of length and style. Indicate clearly whether an article is to be considered for publication as a research article or as a review article.

Research articles describe important analytical, experimental, or empirical results which add to our knowledge in one or more of the many problem areas of this subject.

Review articles, on the other hand, are intended to present considered and objective assessments of a technology or area of practice. They may be based on analytical or experimental models, but if not, they should offer substantive evidence to support the main thesis. As in the case of research articles, review articles must clearly present the implications for future practice.

The Editorial Process

Authors wishing to publish a paper in Teaching Mathematics and Computer Science are requested to submit the paper directly to the Editorial Office. Submission of a manuscript is acknowledgement by the author(s) that it has not been published elsewhere, and that it is not currently submitted for publication elsewhere. Papers should be written mainly in English, but also in German, with an abstract in English. Authors should strive for expository clarity and good literary style. If the Chairman judges the manuscript to be worthy of consideration for publication in Teaching Mathematics and Computer Science , it will be sent to one or more referees who are competent to judge it and who will remain anonymous to the author. After the manuscript has been refereed, the Chairman will notify the author of its acceptance or rejection for publication, and if accepted, of any revisions required prior to publication.

Format of Manuscripts

Abstract
Manuscripts must include an abstract in English that summarizes the principle techniques and conclusions of the paper in relation to known results. It should be no more than 10 lines.

Keywords and Subject Classification
The first page of the manuscript should contain  keywords and, where appropriate, ZDM subject classification codes (available at http://www.emis.de/math/di.html ).

Address and e-mail address
The first page also must include the  mailing address and the e-mail address (if it is) of the corresponding author.

Abbreviated Title
It is necessary to indicate an abbreviated title, which will be used as a running head (no more than 60 characters including spaces).

Tables and Figures
Tables and figures should be limited to those required for clear communication and are to be referenced in the text. As figures may be reduced for printing, the lettering should not be too small. Drawings should be on good quality paper and marked clearly in black.

References
The literature should be referred to by numbers in the text in square brackets. In the bibliography, the references should be listed in alphabetical order or in order of appearance at the end of the manuscript.
References should contain full article titles, chapter titles of books as well as first and last pages of each article. Standard abbreviations of journal names should be used.

Digital form

Authors are encouraged to submit their papers on diskette or via e-mail.
Delivering manuscripts in TeX format may substantially facilitate the publication process provided certain points are taken into consideration:
  • Texts on diskette should be delivered in DOS/Unix/Linux format.
  • The final hard copy of the manuscript should be submitted together with the file. The electronic and printed versions must be absolutely identical.
  • The PostScript format of the article should also be submitted.
  • All pictorial and graphic illustrations should be delivered as hard copy originals and must be 100% of the final printed size.
  • Digital drawings and graphs should be submitted in Encapsulated PostScript (EPS) format. Do not fail to include a hard copy for ready viewing.
  • Back-up copies of the files must be kept.
  • Diskettes must be adequately protected for transport.
For submitting papers with images, see " Technical instructions for digital images ".

Labelling the diskette:

The following information must be written on the label:
  • Name of the author
  • Title of the article
  • File name with extension

To Authors Using TeX

All common dialects of TeX are welcome (plain TeX, AMS-TeX, LaTeX, LaTeX2e and AMS-LaTeX).
Those using AMS-TeX are requested to apply «amsppt.sty».
Those using any version of LaTeX or AMS-LaTeX should apply «article» or «amsart» document style or class.
Those using their own macro package(s) or any not common package should send the package(s) with the files of the manuscript.
Font size of the main text is 10 point.
The other main features are:
  • in plain TeX or AMS-TeX:
\hsize = 126.34 mm \vsize = 189.55 mm \parindent = 20 pt \parskip    =  0 pt \def\lhead{ } % for author's initials and surname (no more than 60 characters) \def\rhead{ } % for (if it necessary) abbreviated title (no more than 60 characters)
  • in LaTeX, LaTeX2e or AMS-LaTeX
\textwidth 126.34 mm
\textheight 189.55 mm
\parindent = 20 pt
\parskip    =   0 pt
\def\lhead{ } % for author's initials and surname (no more than 60 characters)
\def\rhead{ } % for (it it is necessary) abbreviated title (no more than 60 characters)

To Authors Not Using TeX

Authors not using TeX are requested to send their manuscript in three separate versions:
  • with standard text format as offered by your word processing program,
  • in PostScript format, and
  • in addition in Rich Text Format (RTF) or as an ASCII file (most editors have an option to save files in such form). We do not encourage the use of MS Word, particularly as the layout of the pages (the position of figures and paragraphs) can change from printout to printout.

Background Information

The articles (in digital form) which form the background information of the results presented in the submitted article should also be sent with the files of the article.

Galley Proofs

Galley proofs will be provided to the corresponding author and must be returned within 10 days of receipt. Corrections in the galley proofs must be kept to a minimum; if they exceed 10% of the printing costs, the publisher is entitled to charge these supplemental costs to the author.

Reprints

Manuscripts will not be returned. 30 reprints (without covers) of published papers will be sent to the corresponding author free of charge. Additional reprints may be ordered from the Editorial Office for extra charge.

Permissions and Copyright

Authors are responsible for obtaining permission to reuse drawings, photographs, tables, and excerpts from other publications. If the article is accepted by the journal, the authors will be requested to transfer their copyright to the Publisher.
